2001 QRP AFIELD

This is an event for everyone to get out and have fun!  QRP Afield is the 'granddaddy' of the outdoor QRP events, so let's all get out and enjoy the great fall season.  Pick your favorite mountain, seashore, park, ... wherever..., but join in the fun!

Scoring is set up to encourage portable operation (after all, it is QRP Afield!), but all are welcome to participate.  Portable means not using a fixed antenna or indoor, permanent station, and using batteries, solar, or other non-mains power.

Specifics for this year’s contest are:

Date: September 15 & 16 (Saturday and Sunday)

Time: 1 PM EDT (1700Z)  Saturday to 1 PM EDT (1700Z) Sunday.  Scoring will be based on your choice of any total 8 hours of operation (need not be a single 8 hour period) within this 24 hour period.

QRP: 5 watts or less (all modes)

Modes:  CW, SSB, AM, PSK, other digital, flashing lights...... (all modes)

Contact/Mode: Work any station once per mode per band.

Frequencies: All bands, except WARC bands, including HF, VHF, UHF, etc.  Standard QRP frequencies are recommended within each band (or generally accepted frequencies for those modes for which there are no specific QRP frequencies).  But, please, let's spread out a little -- not everyone within a kilohertz of 14.060.

Exchange: RST, Name, State/Province/Country, power or NE QRP #

Scoring (see form below):
  - Non-portable operation:  multiply number of QSO's (in 8 hrs) by one (1 X)
  - Portable operation:  multiply number of QSO's (in 8 hrs) by two (2 X)

WQ1RP Bonus Points: 25 points will be added to the final score for working WQ1RP at least once within the contest time (any mode, although CW is the most likely). This will be a kind of fox hunt, since different folks (NEQRP members all, but only one at a time) will be operating WQ1RP from different locations, at various times throughout the period. Multi-Club Stations: Will not be permitted; however, multi-operators per club is fine.

QRO Stations:  QRP stations may work QRO stations for credit (counts as one QSO each).  However, score submissions are expected only from QRP stations (it is a QRP contest, after all!).

Submission of Scores: Email total score with contest log and (please) any comments/photos concerning your setup, location, experiences, etc., no later than 15 October, to:  K1CL@arrl.net

or mail your entry to:

Chuck Ludinsky, K1CL,
6 Pracing Rd,

Note—We are still looking for  New England QRP members to work 1 hour segments throughout the 24 hour contest period. If you are interested, please contact Chuck Ludinsky, K1CL to sign up.
